Next time you spend some time enjoying nature, you will notice that nothing around you has perfectly straight lines. Everything is either curved, crooked, bent or jagged.
When you put a hunter with a rifle beside it, they are instantly noticable. That is, without the proper clothing to offset this unnaturalness.
Of course, most everyone is familiar with the standard camouflage clothing. A set of pants and jacket with patterns that mimic nature in an attempt to offsetting the unnatural form of the hunter and his gear.

The word Ghillie is an old Scottish term for a special kind of game warden. Ghillies were tasked with protecting the game on their Lord's lands from poachers. From time to time, the ghillies would stalk the game by hiding in the grass and lying perfectly still. They would wait for unsuspecting deer to amble by and then leap out and grab it with their bare hands. Ghillies would then haul their prize back to the keep so the Lord could shoot it in the castle courtyard in a “mock hunt.”
Ghillie suits are used most professionally by military snipers. You may have seen in recent news pictures of snipers looking half man and half shrub. That is because nothing in nature has perfectly straight lines, so equipment like rifles and antennas often betray concealed positions. To counter this, snipers also make little ghillie suits for their rifles. The human form is the most unnatural occurrance in nature and the sniper knows that with the proper camouflage, someone can walk right by and not know he is there.
The advantage you can gain over your target never ceases to amaze first time users. Airsoft and paintball players are continually impressed with the effectiveness of the Bushrag suits. Some of these suits are used by the military and experiences of being stepped on and walked over during scenario games are common.
Before purchasing your own, analyze the environment around you in order to choose the suit with the proper pattern. You will generally have 4 patterns to choose from and must carefully choose the pattern that most perfectly matches the environment you will be using it in.
